Traditionally, this is where victim advocates come in. This handout provides an opportunity to practice your active listening skills with different survivor scenarios. Role of Cultural Competency Sexual assault affects every culture and race.More specifically, this course offers the following benefits: The Training Institute of the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault organizes and sponsors statewide training to sexual violence victim advocates. The training was carefully developed with input from all sexual violence advocates and programs across the state. The UCASA training team includes legal, medical, and human services professionals who facilitate each topic alongside our trained and dedicated staff. The training is available to advocates, law enforcement, health care providers, clergy, and the general public. The New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NJCASA) would like to thank practitioners from the 21 county-based sexual violence programs and Rutgers. The advocacy of survivors such as Brittany Higgins, Grace Tame and Nicole Lee are leading the way providing the foundations for other women to come forward to tackle this ubiquitous and wicked problem. We collaborate with local and regional care personnel to provide our Sexual Assault Counselor Training. The survivor voice can no longer be ignored if we are to make progress in the area of violence against women. Conversations with victims or alleged victims are privileged only if the advocate has completed forty hours of sexual violence specific training. The Utah Confidential Communications Act requires that sexual assault advocates have forty hours of sexual assault specific advocacy training. The professionalism and expertise of sexual assault advocates are essential to maintaining clients’ privacy.
